OVARIAN CYSTS: WHEN TO SEE A DOCTOR
Seek medical attention if you experience:
Severe pelvic pain
Abdominal bloating
Pain during intercourse
Irregular periods
Sudden sharp pain with nausea or vomiting (could be cyst
rupture or torsion)
Signs and Symptoms of Ovarian Cysts
Not all ovarian cysts show symptoms, but when they do, these
are the most common:
1. Pelvic Pain
Dull or sharp pain on one side of the lower abdomen. Pain
may come and go.
2. Bloating or Abdominal Swelling, Feeling of fullness or
heaviness in the stomach area.
3. Menstrual Irregularities such as Missed periods, Heavier
or lighter periods, Spotting between cycles
4. Pain During Intercourse, Pain or discomfort during sexual
activity, especially deep penetration.
5. Pain During Bowel Movements, Pressure from the cyst can
make passing stool painful.
6. Frequent Urination
The cyst may press on the bladder, causing frequent or
urgent urination.
7. Nausea or Vomiting
Seen when a cyst grows large or complications occur.
8. Breast Tenderness
Happens due to hormonal imbalance.
9. Difficulty Getting Pregnant
Seen especially in cases related to PCOS or endometriosis.
10. Sudden Severe Symptoms (Emergency Signs)
These may indicate a ruptured cyst or ovarian torsion
(twisting): Severe sharp pelvic pain, Fever, Dizziness or fainting, Rapid
breathing, Vomiting
If these occur, immediate medical
attention is important.
